Grown-up Field Trip!

November 14, 2021 @ 12:15 pm - 4:15 pm

Join with your friends at FBC on a learning adventure to Newburyport, where we will see and experience first-hand the transformative work of Swords to Plowshares (S2P).
S2P partners with police departments conducting gun buyback programs In Connecticut and elsewhere in New England. Once the collected weapons have been processed and designated for destruction, they are turned over to S2P to be reforged into gardening tools by volunteer blacksmiths, often working alongside prisoners in participating prisons or ex-convicts in community re-entry programs. The finished tools are then donated to community gardens and agricultural high schools, or they are sold in the S2P store.
The demonstration event with S2P will feature a portable forge, affording us a chance to learn more about theprogram, watch a real blacksmith at work, and even try our own hands at fashioning a piece of glowing metal into something beautiful and life-giving!
Transportation is available, or you can drive yourself. We will plan to depart from the church parking lot at 12:15 pm, and our estimated return time is 4:15 pm.
Contact Daniel Johnson (djohnson@fbcbeverly.org) if you have any questions or would like to register for this event. We ask that you register by Friday, November 12, so that we may make appropriate plans for transportation (and lunches/snacks–it would not be a field trip without food!).
