BUSINESS & OPERATIONS MANAGER
JOB POSTING: Business & Operations Manager — First Baptist Church in Beverly, Massachusetts (FBC)
FBC, a progressive and welcoming Christian community, is seeking a full-time business & operations manager.
FBC’s Business & Operations Manager oversees all non-pastoral, non-religious, finance and facilities related operations of the church and its satellite ministries (where appropriate). The role includes responsibility for oversight of operations of the physical church building and related properties, vendor management, and financial oversight.
Full-time exempt; expected 32-40 hours per week; flexible work hours with hybrid options.
Responsibilities include:
- Financial Oversight
- Prepare, monitor, and manage budgets, forecasts, and financial reports
- Supervise vendors and/or manage accounts payable/receivable, payroll, optimize procedures
- Coordinate audits, liaise with external auditors, and ensure compliance with laws and standards in coordination with FBC Treasurer and Finance Committee
- Facilities Management
- Oversee maintenance and repairs of Church property (including White Whale) and equipment
- Operations & Maintenance: Oversee church sexton, minor repairs (electrical, plumbing, HVAC), and groundskeeping
- Vendor & Contractor Management: Source, negotiate with, and manage third-party service providers (cleaning, HVAC, electric, plumbing, IT, security, landscaping)
- Staff Supervision: Lead and direct maintenance and custodial personnel
- At the direction of the Ministers and/or church leadership, arranges for, and/or oversees all repairs, replacements, and improvements to church building and related properties
- Risk Management: Ensure compliance with any safety or health regulations as appropriate
- IT Operations: Work with vendors to ensure functionality of hardware, software, and IT infrastructure
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, management, or related field preferred
- Proven track record in finance, operations, or project/program management
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, analytical, communication, and organizational skills
- Extensive experience with Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, QuickBooks, data analysis tools such as Access
- Familiarity or ideally, practical experience, with facilities management including ability to perform physical tasks when needed including bending and lifting up to 50lbs
- Roll-up-your-sleeves / get-it-done attitude
- Comfortable working in a progressive faith-based community that prioritizes, and values diversity and social justice causes including equality, accessible housing, and human services, etc.
- Highly collaborative, flexible individual who is comfortable working with Ministers and congregation members, paid staff and volunteers, to ensure alignment and smooth execution on wide variety of tasks

SEXTON
JOB POSTING: Sexton
First Baptist Church in Beverly, Massachusetts
First Baptist Church (FBC) in Beverly, a progressive and welcoming Christian community, is seeking a part-time sexton.
The Sexton of the First Baptist Church, Beverly (FBC), is the church’s caretaker and is responsible for maintaining the building, grounds, and equipment, plus setting up for services and events, handling physical security. The Sexton will be asked to collaborate or contribute to special projects, such as setting up for weddings, funerals, the annual FBC Holiday Fair and other initiatives. The Sexton must ensure the church is clean, safe, and functional, blending custodial work with logistical support for the congregation’s activities.
Part-time, averaging 10 hours per week; flexible work hours; availability on weekends (with notice)
Responsibilities include:
- Maintenance & Cleaning: General upkeep, cleaning, minor repairs, trash removal, stocking supplies.
- Building Operations: interfacing with HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and security system contractor, and dealing with emergency issues pertaining to the building
- Event Setup: Arranging chairs, tables, decorations, and audio/visual equipment for services, weddings, funerals, and meetings as requested and assigned
- Minor building repairs and maintenance
- Availability on weekends (with sufficient notice and appropriate adjustment to regular hours)
Qualifications:
- The role requires practical skills, reliability, and a commitment to supporting the church community
- Experience with facilities management including ability to perform physical tasks when needed including bending and lifting up to 50lbs
