Book Group

December 1, 2017 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Does the nightly news leave you agitated or depressed? Are you anxious about rising tides and the latest severe weather patterns? Leave your worries behind and join the Book Group for their December 1st meeting to discuss a hilarious book by Anne Tyler called Vinegar Girl. Since the group has recently read some longer nonfiction works that were challenging but rewarding, the members decided to tackle a shorter, more light-hearted book. Loyce Thomson said that she laughed out loud while reading the entire book, and Beverly Davies agreed that it was a very funny book with Anne Tyler’s usual array of quirky characters.  The book is a contemporary update of Shakespeare’s comedy, The Taming of the Shrew. Kate, the “vinegar girl” of the title, is a tart-tongued independent young woman whose father is trying to force her into an arranged marriage with his esteemed research assistant who’s being threatened with deportation.  The group will be meeting in the church lounge for discussion and laughter.
