The concert will take place in the church’s massive sanctuary. \n  \nHeadlining the 2019 Shelter Fest lineup is Barrence Whitfield\, nationally respected rock-and-soul frontman who calls the North Shore his home. Since bursting onto the Boston music scene in the 1980s\, Whitfield earned a reputation as an energetic live performer in the spirit of Little Richard\, Wilson Pickett and Solomon Burke. \n  \nGeneral admission of a $10 donation provides all evening access–and all proceeds will support the programs of Harborlight Community Partners (HCP)\, https://harborlightcp.org/ As the region’s oldest and largest not-for-profit provider of affordable housing\, HCP currently owns\, manages\, or supports 367 housing units providing home for over 500 people. \n  \nHCP provides affordable housing for families\, elders\, those with disabilities\, and formerly homeless adults. At the end of the class\, all participants will have the opportunity to decide whether they feel ready and called to make a public profession of faith and walk through the waters of baptism on Easter morning (one of the most beautiful and moving rituals and practices of the Baptist church)!\n\nRev. DESCRIPTION:The Book Group will meet again on Friday\, March 29 to discuss the year-long bestseller “There There” by Tommy Orange. An enrolled member of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma\, Tommy Orange has been recognized as a new and original “voice” in contemporary literature\, and his debut novel became a bestseller rapidly by word of mouth. His book describes the lives of twelve Native Americans as they prepare to travel from various parts of the country to attend the Big Oakland Powwow. He gives voice to Native Americans who live in the cities and struggle to find an identity that encompasses their history as a people\, the urban struggles against addiction\, abuse and suicide\, and the beauty and spirituality of their ethnic traditions. Many readers have found this to be a remarkable and eye-opening novel.\nThe Book Group meets at 2 o’clock in the comfort of the church Lounge. New members are always welcome\, even for a single session to discuss one particular book.
