Book Group

April 20, 2018 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

The Book Group has selected the novel “A Piece of the World” by Christina Baker Kline for discussion at their upcoming April 20 meeting.  The author, who also wrote the bestselling book “The Orphan Train”, uses her imagination and detailed factual research to re-create the world of Christina Olson, the model and inspiration for Andrew Wyeth’s most popular painting, “Christina’s World”.  Although Christina’s world appears small in that she she has physical handicaps and lives on a small farm in a tiny seacoast town in Maine, she became the subject of one of the best-known American paintings of the twentieth century.  The author tells a powerful story of her life.  The Olson farmhouse portrayed in the painting has recently been purchased by the Farnsworth Museum and will be open to the public this summer.
The Book Group meets at 1 o’clock in the church lounge and is open to anyone who is interested to attend.
